Call of Duty 3 Review and Overview
In the July 2006 Edition of Electronic Gaming Monthly, it was revealed that the game will focus on
the Normandy Breakout. As in previous installments, the user will play British and U.S campaigns,
as well as Canadian and Polish missions which are replacing the Russian campaign.
It was also confirmed by the magazine that Call of Duty 3 will incorporate a hand to hand combat
system, in which enemy soldiers attempt to rip the weapon out of the player's hands. This game will
make use of the power of the next-gen consoles with dynamic lighting effects and destructible
environments. Online play has also been confirmed, with 24 players able to play at once, a leap
from the 8 player capacity on the Xbox 360's Call of Duty 2.
The online play, as well as offline, will also have vehicles similar to Call of Duty: United
Offensive, the expansion pack to Call of Duty for the PC. These vehicles include tanks, jeeps,
motorcycles (with sidecars) and large trucks with mounted weapons. This additive of operational
vehicles , however, will make use of the Wii's unique controller to aim, and do "battle actions",
such as hand to hand combat and fighting an enemy for a weapon. The PS3 will also not have offline
multiplayer, but will have online multiplayer and the PS3 controller will make use of motion
detection for some actions as well.
Call of Duty 3 was a launch title for Wii at Activate Asia 2006.
An interesting detail to note is that Major Ingram returns from Call of Duty and United Offensive,
along with Doyle from United Offensive. Their opening mission proceeds a lot like CoD:UO in that
their plane gets shot down and they are recovered by the local resistance, although the BradyGames
official strategy guide for the game states that Ingram's brother was the one recovered by the
101st Airborne in Austria. However, the facial features of Ingram in CoD3 are exactly the same as
in CoD and UO.
